vlog trailer

click

Recording minutes of video this week, nothing set up, just point and make sure the red light is showing. A one minute trailer of some of the material. Ideas are easy, it's the editing that takes the time. Quicktime, 2.38Mb, 320x240....

little cat diary #1

click

they had Big Cat Diaries on BBC TV - a wildlife programme. This is the domestic little cats version - left side Fergus, right side Ellie. 2.04Mb, Quicktime colour, sound and shot on a camphone. Me-Tv viewers this is not a 320x240 movie so it'll look a bit distorted in their viewer. If you've not signed up for Me-Tv you are missng some great vlogs.

animation

click

you don't need a video camera to videoblog. this quick and rough animation was made with a fax machine, picture editing software, and Quicktime Pro. It's a story of too many burgers makes you overweight.
1) Draw pictures with a black ink pen on a couple of sheets of paper.
2) Scan them into your computer. I used a fax machine to send them as an email to myself - it was the easiest thing to do at work.
3) Make seperate pictures with picture editing software. Use Quicktime Pro to build a movie from the stills.

No camera videoblogs could include - Powerpoint presentations, mashing-up downloaded movie clips or using screen capture software. More to follow.

the chippy

click

after the pub call in at the chippy (fish and chip shop) on the way home, inebriated camphone user takes some footage. Quicktime 935k, 1.45 seconds.

36 Hours

click

Musical excerpt from a play called "36 Hours" - the story of John Cooper Clarke. It's interesting even if you've never heard of one of Britain's most famous poets.
Shot on a Sony Cybershot DSC-120, mpeg, reduced to 1.73mb in Windows Movie Maker.

A bit weird to be a character in a play and have somebody play you. But Josephine Wyne-Eyton did on great acting job with my lines.

cafe space

Thought we'd try The Basement a sort of alternative cafe but very cheap prices, too cheap. Shot on camera phone - I don't know what's happening when I export this Quicktime movie but the size leaps up. Need to learn some compression tricks.

video payphone #1

Now we've got a video payphone in town - record, save and email. Thought i'd give it a whirl. Low quality, heavily compressed, but it could have its blogging uses. But why have British Telecom chosen Windows Media File and not MPEG....

SnowTry

Snow is treat around these parts. It comes once a year and lasts a few days. After that the pavements and roads are trecherous ice rinks. We go and record the event it's such a rare happening.

Snowtry

Technical guff : Quicktime made on XP, 2.5mb , Detroit Cobras do the music they're great but my sound player is a bit faulty so it might be a bit tinny, shot on a Sony Cybershot DSC-P120 digital camera.

nothing sunday

Oh have I had problems, still ill with a virus and the laptop is recovering from one too. Another jerky camphone video about a walk to the shops. Dani Siciliano gets the soundtrack and some street noise. Quicktime, 2.4Mb, 1.29 seconds, 176 x 144. These cameras are toys - fun and soon forgetable.

For something more interesting and more promising see:
Squeeze Project by Charlene. Remix a video yourself the rip and burn in 1Mb chunks.
