Own Your Own Club

Regular readers will know we often stray off Manchester United into the soul of football which is found in the lower leagues.
So reading in Sunday's Non-League Paper (£1.40 at the local co-op store) discovered a couple of co-operative football clubs that you can buy one share in and have one vote like everyone else. Your vote will even pick the team, appoint the manager and decide all sorts of actions.
Myfootballclub (IPS No. 30275R - so you can look it up on the FSA Register) has 53,000 members so far, shares and annual fee cost £35, and they are looking to buy at least 51% of an existing club, outside the Championship and take it up to the top. Buying Leeds United is the favourite amongst the investors.

MyBUFC is a trust to buy and own Biggleswade United (it's in Bedfordshire). Costs £23.50 in shares and annual fee. Again you can vote on everyday actions like who is going to be the striker this week.

FC United of Manchester had their AGM on Sunday, couldn't go as was at work. The share and annual fee is £10. You don't get to pick the team but you do decide about replica shirts and the price of tickets.

Meaningless Tournament Alert

Did you know the Club World Cup is taking place this December in Japan? Well I posted an entry slagging off the competition on another blog at OleOle and sparked off a spat of comments. So who cares about these games apart from Toyota (sponsors), and FIFA officials (an expenses paid trip to Japan just before xmas - I wouldn't say no). It probably won't be shown on daytime telly in the UK. Well not unless someone like Eurosport want to fill their daytime schedule. Will AC Milan, Boca Juniors, Waitakere United from New Zealand, and Pachuca of Mexico pull in the audience figures. Half heartedly chasing a gold cup and trying to avoid injuries.

I've only had ten comments which for a biffa in Chorlton ranks as pretty good. Should you want to know more, here are the links, I'm looking forward a more meaningful match against Middlesboro on Saturday.

Roy Lives on

Personally I find the Setanta Sports website annoying - too many Flash adverts and tricky navigation. But I accidentally found some "Roy of the Rovers" cartoons, it looks like scans from the mid-80's, one of the stories has Spandau Ballet playing, so that'll date it. Melchester Rovers 2 Brayford 2 - it doesn't get any bigger. Bit of a nostalgic trip for a Stretford lad who grew up on this stuff.

Floodlights

Floodlight failure, game abandoned!! Well it makes the news when your little club would only get a line in the results section. Did a bit of checking, well just Google News, after seeing the Needham Market v. Grantham Town FA Cup tie the lights failed. Last week it was Clitheroe v. FC United in the Unibond Div 1 North, then Wexford FC on July 31st, an u-14's match in Camden, Londonshire; Carlton Town 7th September. So no harm done. Global warming or a rant on BBC Radio 5 Live blaming the Government.

Footie in a river

Bourton-on-the-Water Football in the River 2007 - an annual event in this small village in the Cotswalds. Bit of a kick about in the River Windrush. I have an interest in these town football games - like the Shrovetide hundred+ a side games in Ashbourne, Workington and elsewhere, or Calcio Fiorentino in Firenze (Florence) every June. One day I'll get to one.
