Should have won easily
United 2-1 Bolton Wanderers
Premiership 2009/10; attendance 75,103
At last a resumption of the Premier League. Feel like it's been months away, and I've been to four other matches in the meantime.
From the start United put the pressure on and we're thinking it'll be four goals this afternoon. The chances came and went. But two nil up at half time and still looking forward to a blitz down at our end. But credit to Bolton they came back into it, pulled one back after a previous attempt was disallowed.
Added time at Old Trafford is apparently a bit controversial. There were four minutes today, more like five. But it can work against you as you hang on for the win. Witnessed some clever time wasting by Ryan Giggs. Straight from the text book, taking the ball up to the corner flag for two minutes and inviting Bolton to put the ball into touch. Other teams should note how it's done. Doesn't make for pretty football though.
Before then in the last minutes there was a spell when United had no possession. Sat deep in defence and just hoofing back to the opposition. It doesn't make it comfortable if your watching your three points under siege.
The biggest cheer came when the Liverpool result was announced at the end of the match - good old Sunderland winning. So in all not a fire cracker of game, but top of the league and not playing that well.
