Made it hard work

United 2-0 Blackburn Rovers
Premiership 2009/10; attendance 74,658
Here's me waiting all day for a sackful of goals, thinking Blackburn would be stricken with swine flu and it would a five nil romp like Chelsea did last week over them. No it was heavy going as the last pass usually in the box went astray.

Nil-nil at half time so eventually when the goals did come they were at our end. No point in doing a match report just to say two well taken goals by Berbatov and Rooney. Unfortunately the other chances weren't well taken. How Obertan missed one from six yards we don't know? But we're a forgiving lot for someone making his first appearance at Old Trafford. I'm sure the goals will come, I've been well impressed with his speed and skill. My man of the match is Valencia for a hundred per cent effort throughout the game.

As it was a 1730h kick off we decided to check out the city centre before hand. The crowds in town are a nightmare but with our local knowledge we cut through the back streets of the Northern Quarter for some mid-afternoon lunch at Earth Cafe. Then later up to platforn 14 at Piccadilly station to get the train direct to Old Trafford. It's not a well known service but one minute you're in town and ten minutes later you are right next to the main stand at the ground. If you're checking it out on the web - there are only three trains there and back on match days and they are only announced a couple of days before hand.

So not the best day's football but the right result. Think I enjoyed the chocolate cake at half time more than the first half. A good move by the Biffa herself getting a take out from the cafe. Note to diary must get the half time match snacks back on track - we used to have filled bagels, coffee and a hip flask.

Admission: £37, train ticket £3.20 (only £3.30 return), snacks £3. Weather - calm, dry, 15 degrees, full moon.
