Took the points against Wolfsburg

United 2-1 Wolfsburg
UEFA Champions League; attendance 74,037
The Champions League doesn't get interesting until the knock out stage. Do I detect a complacency with the fans that we've got an easy group and it will be February when the real action starts. Until then sit back and watch six games on Tv.

Well Wolfsburg are a good attacking side. They came to Old Trafford trying to win, and some of United's defensive frailties showed, as in the Manchester derby. Maybe Ferdinand isn't fully fit, but even Vidic was finding it tough against their pacey attack.

A goal down in the second half but didn't think we'd get beaten. Two lovely goals right in front of the Stretford End. There is something about being behind a goal and some way back. The flight of the ball appears a lot slower than on the Tv. Got a bit distracted when Giggs slotted the first from a free kick. It was Anderson doing his face the keeper routine and moving his arms about. Love it when he does this. Never ever seen another player do the trick. Carrick's winner was pretty stunning too being at a difficult height to hit.

The last few minutes are always edgy. The ball was up near United's goal at the far end and you don't want a late equaliser and no way back. Fortunately no one ruined the night.

The rain had stopped half way through the second half so we didn't get wet again. That's after sitting for 100 plus minutes in a damp coat during the game. It was that fine drizzle that is so special to Manchester that covered us on the walk to the ground.

I remember watching Wolfsburg on the Tv a few years back and was more taken with their bright green shirts, the sort of colour that would pass for a job as a paramedic. Never thought they'd ever be champions of Germany and turn up in Manchester. They did but they had a regular green kit on and their own decorated tour bus in the car park.

Next stop CSK Moscow and a 1730h kick off. I'll have to try and leave work early.
