Underway with a win
United 1-0 Birmingham City
Premiership 2009/10; attendance 75,061
You wait two and a half months for another Premiership game and it's not the razzmatazz you've built it up to in your head. Playing on a Sunday is just a minor irritation. It's not being match fit, but there is no way I'm going to miss the first game of the season, just need to walk a bit slower to the game.
The formation was a bit unfamiliar missing Ferdinand, Vidic and Carrick but nothing to worry about. If I had come away from this game having seen a few goals I would have been happy. But it was a job done, three points in the bag and on to the next one.
The media pressure on United to perform outstandingly is not shining on Old Trafford at the moment. Winning four English titles in a row has never been done before. So all the guff is about Liverpool, City and Chelsea with something to prove.
Best players for me were Giggs coming on in the second half which improved Valencia's game after his quiet first half. Also Ben Foster who kept a clean sheet when the defence was caught by Birmingham attacks. Joe Hart in nets for for the visitors played a blinder unfortunately. Got a bit of stick from the Stretford End, usual stuff "City reject" etc, but denied Michael Owen in a one on one right at the end. Some people find it hard to get their heads that the little chap in the No.7 red shirt is one of our players. Though I did spot a fair few fans with new replica version shirts with his name on the back.
Got myself home to bed. The Biffa herself woke me to say that Spurs had beaten Liverpool 2-1. I then recovered enough to eat a plate of mash and ketchup and watch "Countryfile".
