Bayern Keep The Audi Cup

Bayern Munich 0-0 United:
7-6 on penalties, no extra time
Another thrilling evening with that streaming video stuff. Watched most of it until the channel was removed with two minutes to go. Quickly got another one. There was some liveblogging going on at Scribblelive which is a good online application for this sort of thing. Even joined in the discussion. Enough of that tech stuff let's go to the footie.

A competitive match, and essentially an away game in Munich at the impressive Allianz Stadium. No goals but there should have been. Berbatov hit the bar, Owen had one saved in a one on one with the keeper. The only worrying thing was United's defence got carved up on numerous occasions. Fortunately VDS was on form, and Ferdinand saved the day with a last touch of the toe. But it looked frail without Vidic in there.

New away kit in black with blue trim and a big blue V across the front of the shirt. The home kit is the same in red and black. Not that I ever wear a football shirt - leave it to the athletes not some wine, beer and potato guzzler like myself.

No doubt Fergie will be pleased with the performance. We the fans should be watching two up front in attack with two more waiting on the bench after the frustrating 75 minutes of not scoring. Optimistic about the forthcoming season? Yes about the Premiership, and another FA Cup would be alright after a few seasons gap. Not so sure about the Champions League. As long as it's not Real Madrid or Liverpool is the consolation prize.

United: Van der Sar; Fletcher, Ferdinand (Cathcart 69), Evans, Evra; Gibson (Valencia 63), Scholes, Giggs, Nani; Owen (Rooney 78), Berbatov (Anderson 78)
Subs not used: Foster, Park, Tosic, Carrick, Fabio, O’Shea, Macheda

Penalty shootout: Giggs scored; Baumjohann scored; Anderson scored; Braafheid scored; Nani scored; Altintop scored; Evra missed (saved); Pranjic missed (saved); Rooney scored; Sosa scored; Fletcher scored; Ottl scored; Scholes scored; Badstuber scored; Evans missed (saved); van Buyten scored.
