Tight Edgy Win Over Rovers
United 2-1 Blackburn Rovers
Premiership 2008/09; attendance 75,000
Bit tired of people telling me the title is in the bag, and as I keep repeating you get your medals in May, and not in February. Today was a game that could easily have been lost or drawn. No team wins all their matches, football is like that. A 1730h kick off and just made it. You've had all day to get to Old Trafford, but fannying about, and it not being dark and cold put me into an afternoon of pleasant spring.
It should have been easy, but Rovers came with the determination to attack and tackle, bit like the Hull game earlier in the season. It was 1-1 at half time. After the break we got to saw Ronaldo's free kick come towards us and hit the back of the net. Supurb! But fumbles in defence at the far end made it all shakey again. It brought the crowd to life, urging United to win, and brought Fergie down to the touchline. Clearly he didn't like it either. Bring on Vidic to shore up the defence and bring on Tevez to run Rovers ragged. He obviousy I agreed with my selection. Later Giggs came on - still that inspiring determination to tackle, run, and win a match even if it's only for 10 minutes.
Got home at 2000h knowing I'd seen one of the hardest fought wins of the campaign. Big match on Tuesday in Milan.
