The Grind of the Wigan win
United 1-0 Wigan Athletic
Premiership 2008/09; attendance 73,917
The evening started well. Ronaldo collected his FIFA Player of The Year award on the pitch - his sideboard must be sagging under the weight of the trophies he's collected. I had barely time to read the electronic scoreboard flashing up the names of the potential substitutes before the first goal was scored. Thinking the floodgates were about to open. Unfortunately Rooney the scorer retired injured and the game never regained that sparkle.
First half went down to being dull. I have to question the point of Nani on the pitch, the bloke next to me, Brian, is no fan of Berbatov. We both find fault with our chosen players. For me Berbatov is good to watch - the way he can deal with waist height balls by trapping them with an outstretched leg comes in very useful. Nani plays slightly better on the right than on the left.
Second half it all goes a bit shakey. Even Fergie is on the touchline shouting concerns. Fortunately Wigan fail to get shots on target for all their effort. They are working hard and there isn't enough steam in United, after the win on Sunday, to put the game into a comfortable 2 goal cushion. Glad it eventually ended and the points were safe.
