At last I can get to a live match and it's already 11 days into the year. What better it's one of the four big league fixtures. Apprehensive about getting a result based on recent form and the first half display confirms my prediction of 1-1. Don't look like scoring, anything goals are going to come from set pieces. The crowd were in fine form though - best singing and support in a good while. Best chanting reserved for Chelsea's John Terry. He's cheered, has his own song and even gets the bar scarf twirl to go with it. But what do I know - a goal from a corner just before half time only for it to disallowed. Whilst we're cursing the lino for being mis-sighted it's taken again and suprisingly it's headed home. Elation.
Second half sees a more structured performance by the reds, even Giggs is playing well and the defending is totally resolute. Get another goal and this match is won as Chelsea have very little to offer now. Well two great goals down at our end confirms the points. Singing "Terry, Terry give us a wave"...and the obligatory "Are You Watching Merseyside?" We've beaten Chelsea and their fans are leaving before the end but we're all staying to cheer United off the pitch.
What a great evening out. Didn't expect to win but did. Walking back thinking about coming back on Wednesday for Wigan Athletic one of those games in hand. But first it's a date with Match of the Day to see it all again in close-up.
