Is it worth owt?

This was a week in which people were trying to sell the scarf given away at last Sunday's match on e-Bay the next day. Apparently stopped by e-Bay, and when i checked that was the case. It's a cheap scarf, and in no way replica of the late 1950's neck wear. I'm sure football scarfs back then were short and only in two colours, that is red and white - but there is a thin black stripe in there and it hangs down to your waist. I threw away the original packaging, a plastic bag and a letter from the club, so that's halved the price right away.

However if you wait a few years it might be worth something. There was a football memorabilia auction last Friday 8th February at Hough End Hall, Chorlton. I meant to cycle over and have a nosey but forgot. However the local paper - the South Manchester Reporter got to the gig and if believe their figures are correct (inaccurate sloppy journalism between the property adverts) here is what you might be expected to pay...

1909 Manchester United Cup Final itinerary written by the Chairman £2300
1923 first Wembley Final programme £1100
1924 Cup Final programme Villa v. Newcastle £1800
1949 first game at Old Trafford after being bombed, programme £420
1958 Red Star Belgrade v United programme £2100
