Fixture Changes (Again)
Thank heavens for the old WWW for finding out about fixture changes. I have to check a couple of times a week 'cos there is always something cropping up. Today I noticed that United's FA Cup 4th round is scheduled for a Sunday 27th kick off. Looks like it's on telly at 1400h. Although I'd really have liked some team I haven't seen for years or ever before, but Spurs or Reading will be good game.
That's quite good 'cos not working that weekend and an interesting FC United fixture was announced today. A home game against Rossendale United in the Unibond League President's Cup on the Saturday 26th January. Like many supporters I'm not big on extra cups and would have preferred the Unibond league clash with top of the table Curzon Ashton which has now been postponed. But that's a league sponsored by a German glue company for you.
That these cups still carry on is something of an anachronism in a diet of constant telly football. Big United play Oldham Athletic on Thursday 17 Jan in the Lancashire Senior Cup - don't worry, it's one for the reserve team. The competition is sponsored by "Canterbury of New Zealand" a sports apparel company. They make Peter Cech's hat - yes the Chelsea goalie and he still wears it for every match . You wonder what went on in the world of suits, handshakes, and dinners to land that one. Story.
What i do know is this immutable fact - "without fans football is nothing". Nothing is a bit harsh it'll be tiddley-winks sponsored by some firm you've never heard of.
