Boycott Match Success
FC United Reserves 3-1 Club AZ (Astra Zeneca - yes the pharmaceutical corporation).

Welcome to Gorton M18 of endless municipal housing and little shops. Bits of it are used to film "Shameless". A brisk and dreary tramp to reach the stadium. It's a big field with lights, car park, a main stand shed of four terraces opposite a 2 storey club house. Admission free, but donations accepted in buckets, programme 1.50, half time draw tickets 1.00. It's hard to put a figure on the attendance, over 400 in the elements and another 100 or more with pints and potato hash in the two bars.
This is the bed rock of FC United support - solid Manc, no silly hats (apart from one bloke in a Mexican style but he was fat enough to carry it off) and plenty of scarves. The football is young players on muddy grass with plenty of high balls and lots of shouting.
So was the boycott of the first team game a success. I'd say yes as only 297 turned out at Curzon Ashton, at least a 1,000 down on what the fixture would have atrracted. Plus the first team won 0-2 which is a bonus.
The journey home wasn't too good. Didn't mind the bus being 10 minutes late or it taking a wrong turn to wind around Fallowfield to get back on route. It was listening to the game at West Ham on earphones. A missed penalty, and then sunk by two quick goals. Just when football fortunes smile they can be taken away so quickly.
